Temporary Lower Fares & New Schedules For SF Bay Ferry Coming This July!
Here's some good news for ferry riders. As part of the San Francisco Bay Area Water Emergency Transportation Authority's (WETA) Pandemic Recovery Program, the Board of Directors recently approved a proposal that includes temporary lower fares and an enhanced schedule for its San Francisco Bay Ferry service. This pandemic-related change is designed to incentivize the return of riders on the San Francisco Bay Ferry while also accommodating expected changes in travel patterns and attracting new riders.
Effective July 1, 2021, fares will be temporarily lowered for San Francisco Bay Ferry riders for one year. During this year, WETA plans to closely monitor ridership data and will evaluate options for the system’s longer-term fare structure. If no new action is necessary, WETA’s fares will revert to pre-pandemic levels.
Regarding the enhanced schedule, be on the lookout for new schedules to be released in May that go into effect by July. Until July, current schedules and fares will remain in effect. Approved scheduled changes to the San Francisco Bay Ferry service include the resumption of weekend service for Richmond, Alameda, Vallejo and Oakland beginning in July. Plus, new weekday schedules will provide additional flexibility for riders by increasing the number of mid-day and late evening departures.
