Construction Ongoing For Phase 1 Of Richmond Wellness Trail
Richmond is striving to connect its residents with more trails and parks. After all, these amenities can create substantial benefits for public health and quality of life. By 2022, the first phase of the Richmond Wellness Trail is expected to be complete. Construction on Phase 1 has been ongoing since late April/early May of this year.
The first phase of the project, which is a multi-use greenway corridor linking downtown Richmond to the Richmond shoreline, will cover Richmond BART Station to Martin Luther King, Jr. Park. It will include new bike lanes and improvement of the sidewalk for safe and equitable transportation. Phase 1 will also include rain gardens to facilitate clean water, new street trees to expand Richmond’s urban forest, and signage, as revealed in the weekly report by Richmond City Manager Laura Snideman.
The Richmond Wellness trail is designed to provide residents with a safe, inviting, multimodal route that inspires a healthy, active lifestyle for increasing connections between historic downtown Richmond, the Iron Triangle, and the natural and historical features of the waterfront. Future phases of the Richmond Wellness Trail will cover Richmond’s shoreline, the Richmond Ferry, and the Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Historic Park. Completion is expected by spring 2022. The Richmond Wellness Trail is part of the National Parks Urban Agenda. Implementation was spearheaded by the Trust for Public Land and grant funding from the California Natural Resources Agency.
